About this course

Life in the Towns and Countryside in Roman Britain

This course explores daily life in Roman Britain (43–410 AD), contrasting the experiences of people living in Roman towns with those in the countryside. It examines urban planning, economy, religion, social structures, and rural agricultural practices, using archaeological evidence and historical sources.

Our journey begins with an introduction to Roman Britain and urban life and then moves on to  look at daily life in the towns, the countryside and rural life, and concluding with the decline and legacy of Roman Britain.
